I get inspiration from many places, from the web sites I visit and the people I talk to, from my past experiences and the second hand experience of others. I get inspiration from trees blowing in the wind and from the ingenious ways in which simple things like the ways ballpoint pen manufactures come up with to show and hide the pen tip. Look around, there are some really cool ways for this to be achieved and you have to admire the people behind it.
It's the details in things that inspire me, the tiny pieces of design on everyday objects, the beauty and the simplicity of the designs.
I am also inspired by badly designed or implemented solutions to problems. I recently bought a USB Digital Camera, it functions great as a camera but it has a terrible flaw; When connected to the USB to do camera->PC transfers the LCD screen comes on. It has no function, there is no reason BUT it sure does gobble the batteries when it's switched on. The only justification I can think of is to force me to buy the AC adapter.
Bad design makes even mediocre design look good.
I am also inspired by the creativity of TV advertising. I don't know what it's like in other countries but in the UK there have been some fabulously creative and ingenious adverts - there have been some truly awful ones too.
Mostly though my inspiration comes from the very creative people I spend my time with.
